The Belmar Historical Preservation Council [BHPC] and members of Union Fire Co. No. 1 invited the public to a celebration open house and tour of the historic Union Fire House building on Sunday, May 1, from 1 to 4 p.m. to commemorate the building’s 100th anniversary.

This historic building was erected in 1911 on the corner of 9th Avenue and E Street at a cost of $15,000.

Children and adults alike delighted in seeing where the old horse stables were and the plaques with the names of the horses that served the fire company, Union Fire Company’s original steam fire engine, the original fire alarm bell, and all the fire house memorabilia, as well as today’s modern fire engines.

The building’s second floor housed the municipal offices back in 1911. The first floor was home to the police department and still contains three jail cells.
